The survey has been carried out on board of the R/V Bannock - CNR. During the cruise, the main aim of which was the reconstruction of the geological and geodynamic evolution of the Sicily Channel, a grid of single channel seismic profiles was collected using a 30 kJ - Sparker source (Teledyne Exploration, Houston - USA). From the original radio navigation system Loran-C, the coordinates have been later converted into geographical. The sparker profiles total 1100 nm and are organized in groups named after the investigated areas. The areas investigated during the survey CS71 are: the surroundings Skerki Bank (eismic profiles CS71-SK) up to reach the Aceste Seamount, the Sicily Channel (seismic profiles CS71-SC; between the Skerki and Pantelleria), Pantelleria basin, Linosa Basin, Malta Basin and Gela (seismic profiles CS71-SC) basin up to the surroundings continental shelf. The cruise has been carried out from 4th August to 23th August 1971. Dr. P. Colantoni, F. Marabini and C. Savelli were on board as part of the scientific team, and A. Ferriani, G. Busatti, G. Marozzi, G. Zini and P. Zucchini were part of the technical team. PI was the Prof. E.F.K. Zarudzki.
