The cruise MEMA12 (MaGIC Project) is aimed at the acquisition of multibeam ecometric data in the two map sheets of the southern Adriatic sea that are under ISMAR competence: Otranto (map sheet 49) and Tricase (map sheet 48). This campaign aims to complete the bathymetric mapping and therefore the definition of all the erosive-depositional elements genetically linked to the impact of dense and deep currents, which contribute to pervasively remodel the western portion of the southern Adriatic edge. Furthermore, the geomorphological and geological characterization of the margin, both in the portion of the escarpment and of the continental shelf, is aimed at providing the physical elements for the definition of marine habitats according to the Habitat Directive (92/43 EEC). In particular, the objective of the investigation on the Apulian platform is to identify areas characterized by the presence of marine bioconstructions. MaGIC Project is funded by the Italian Civil Protection Department for the acquisition of high-resolution morphobatimetric data along Italian continental margins. Is expected the production of “Map of the elements of geohazards of the Itralian Seas”, consisting of 72 map sheets at scale 1:50.000, of which 19 pertaining to ISMAR-CNR UOS Bologna. For each sheet there are four thematic maps. They highlight different aspects of the geohazard and the different scales at which it can be investigated and represented.

La campagna MEMA12 (MaGIC Project) è finalizzata all'acquisizione di dati ecometrici multi fascio nei 2 fogli dell’ Adriatico meridionale di competenza ISMAR: Foglio Otranto (Foglio 49) e Foglio Tricase (Foglio 48). Questa campagna ha lo scopo di completare la mappatura batimetrica e quindi la definizione di tutti gli elementi erosivo-deposizionali geneticamente legati all’impatto di correnti dense profonde, che concorrono a rimodellare in modo pervasivo la porzione occidentale del margine meridionale adriatico. Inoltre, la caratterizzazione geomorfologica e geologica del margine, sia nella porzione di scarpata che di piattaforma continentale, è finalizzata a fornire gli elementi fisici per la definizione degli habitat marini secondo la direttiva Habitat (92/43 CEE). In particolare, l'obiettivo dell’indagine sulla piattaforma pugliese è quello di identificare aree caratterizzate dalla presenza di biocostruzioni marine. MaGIC è un progetto finanziato dal Dipartimento della Protezione Civile per l’acquisizione di dati morfobatimetrici ad alta risoluzione lungo settori di costa italiani. A tal fine è prevista la realizzazione della Carta degli Elementi di Pericolosità dei Fondali Marini Italiani, costituita da 72 Fogli a scala 1:50.000, di cui 19 di competenza ISMAR-CNR UOS Bologna. Per ciascun foglio sono previste quattro carte tematiche, esse servono a mettere in risalto aspetti diversi della pericolosità geologica e le differenti scale a cui essa può essere investigata e rappresentata.
