Monitoring marine biodiversity in space and time along the Italian coasts: why, what and how of monitoring programs

A scoping review on marine monitoring in Italy is ongoing: the questions motivating the review are: what is done, where and by whom, how much it costs, redundancies, main gaps, and what is the current knowledge about marine monitoring at the Italian scale? Here the data extracted from the literature about monitoring sites along the Italian coasts.

This review focuses on monitoring sites along the Italian coastline to assess changes in biodiversity over time and space. This action was led by the University of Naples Federico II (Italy) and was carried out within the framework of the National Biodiversity Future Centre (NBFC). Data were extracted from the scientific literature (SCOPUS and Web of Science) and analysed in two phases using Covidence: 1) screening of the abstracts, and 2) reading of articles with information extraction. All data with a spatial reference were processed using ArcGIS (CNR-ISMAR).
